Job Opportunity

Phoenix Bikes, the DC area's only youth-focused non-profit bike shop, is looking for a new Executive Director. Here is the job description: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/edu/1202532384.html The position requires someone experienced in an educational environment, who is also able to learn relatively quickly. We DO NOT require them to have any bicycle knowledge, only an interest in cycling and youth development. Candidates will certainly need to become proficient in bicycle mechanics, but we've proven that learning to be a bicycle mechanic is something that can be acquired, as bikes turn out not to be all that complicated. Additionally, the shop is full of experienced and friendly mechanic volunteers, happy to share their knowledge. Please contact colin.phoenixbikes@gmail.com if you are interested. Phoenix Bikes is a great program combining cycling and education. We teach at-risk youth seriously useful problem solving skills, while involving them in an extremely positive environment. We have an excellent (and always-growing) community of volunteer mechanics and mentors who reliably help out both youth programs and shop operations. Additionally, we provide a resource for those in the area who rely on their bikes to get to work, but cannot afford the costs of commercial bike shop services. Go to www.PhoenixBikes.org
