Best Western Annapolis 2520 Riva Road Annapolis, MD, 21401United States |
PPTC is partnering with the local cycling community, Capital Bicycle, City of Annapolis and Wholeness for Humanity. We’re calling it Experience Annapolis since we have city tours, boat tours, walking tours, cycling eco tours and a reception with Mayor Ellen Moyer. Most rides vary in length from 20 to 66 miles on routes designed by Annapolis cyclists.
With more surviving 18th century buildings than any other city in the United States, visiting Annapolis is like stepping back in time to the days when the city was a colonial seaport. Known as America’s Sailing Capital, the city is located on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and is a paradise for water lovers, famous for its crab cakes, lighthouses, and 500 miles of gorgeous shoreline.
The City of Annapolis is proud of an environmental record that leads by example. The 13 mile cycling “EcoTour” shows over 50 activities including rain gardens and community greening projects, such as bike trails, green roofs, living shorelines, the region's first urban living classroom, and conservation easements preserved by the nation's only municipally-owned land trust.
Registration includes:
- Watermark boat tour of Severn River,
- Saturday dinner,
- Sunday lunch,
- Ice cream social,
- City Hall reception,
- Cue sheets and camaraderie.
- Registration fee:
- PPTC members: $115 per person
- Non members: $135 per person [Join PPTC : $32 individual ($37 per family)]
- *Refund Policy: Full refund (less $20 cancellation fee) prior to June 5, 2009.

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR:
Welcome One and All,
Annapolis has been welcoming visitors for more than 300 years. Whether people come for history, the water, or the hospitality, there is always something to enjoy in Annapolis. You will find the same atmosphere today, drawing more than four million people a year to our shores.
Today, the harbor, a bustling seaport of the 18th century, has evolved into an internationally renowned sailing center. City dock visitors from around the world ... and from Annapolis neighborhoods ... share the news of the day while enjoying the ambiance and tidewater cuisine. The cultural heritage and architectural gems from our earliest days create a setting that boasts some of the oldest structures in the country still used for their original purposes. In fact, the skyline of this charming harbor has remained much the same for hundreds of years. Moving tributes to the African-American experience can be found in the Kunta Kinte and Alex Haley monuments. So please take time to rediscover your own history reflected in the Annapolis community.
Annapolis also is proud of its environmental heritage. As a Gold Medal Community Partner winner, Annapolis serves as a model for the Chesapeake Bay watershed when it comes to implementing green development practices. During your visit to Annapolis, you can walk through the historic maritime community of Eastport and see rain gardens, the Annapolis Maritime Museum, and many community greening projects. You can also bicycle around the town, touring public/private partnerships that have blossomed into bike trails, green roofs, the region’s first urban living classroom, conservation easements preserved by the nations only municipally-owned land trust, and Bayscapes gardens.
While you are visiting with us, we hope that you enjoy a fun boat ride around Annapolis Harbor where you can see the Naval Academy and the Chesapeake Bay up close and from a unique perspective. And after your walk or ride boat ride, walk the streets of America's first capital and enjoy a tasty dinner at one of our finest local restaurants.
Annapolis is a town that leads by example, preserving its past and while trying new and innovative ways to address the environmental pressures of the modern world. Let us share our story with you, and please feel free to tell your friends and colleagues about what you saw during your visit.
Sincerely,
Mayor Ellen O. Moyer
