Note from an old PPTC member

Norman Huber sent the following message:

I was a member back from about 72 to 79 when I retired from the Army. PPTC was the place I learned the pleasure of the group rides. I just visited the web site because I thought a fellow motorcyclist might find that the quiet roads we ride on our bicycles would be just the thing to show him the beauty of the area when he visits in a few months.

The last time I saw a club Newsletter, I was amazed at the size and contents. I remember the mimeographed newsletters and Clay Grubec's (S) on "M" Street back when the rides rode to a picnic spot and the "Big Dogs" rode onto make an extra loop before returning to devour the food prepared by those who chose not to suffer. Then Miji showed up to put the guys to shame. I remember chasing her around Quantico with the NCVC.

I will say I'm glad I don't have to try to find a relatively lightly travel road to ride. The roads I rode in the 70's are lined with houses with heavy traffic. Here in Central Illinois I have an abundance of quiet farm to market roads but I have to ride a lot further to find the scenery you have in the DC area.

If anyone remembers the "Panama Pedaler", drop me a line at

The old days

I didn't belong to PPTC in those years but remember Norm Huber from NCVC , although it was so long ago I can't associate the name with a face . I, too , remember the training and racing at Quantico and the early spring , early Sunday am training races in Rock Creek Park , and the time trial series on the parkway north of Chain Bridge. regards, Tom Roberson
